His biography reads "PEA 1873, and Trustee, 1903-1935, he was an author, lecturer, publisher, and bibliophile of note. His several collections of manuscripts and fine books rank among the foremost in their fields. His many generous gifts to the Academy include the Plimpton Playing Fields and Phillips Church. The artist is the mother-in-law of Francis T. P. Plimpton, Mr. George A. Plimpton's son."
